Hard to believe we are moving into April at the end of this week!! Only 14 practices before our first meet!!! J This week practices are on Monday and Thursday from 4:45-6PM, and Saturday morning we will again be at Monroe High School from 10-12.
Thank you for ordering sweatshirts, I am hoping to order them around mid-week, so this is the last call for any more additional orders to be placed at this price. If we have to reorder, the cost goes up per sweatshirt…
Also, NOW is the time that I am thinking and in earnest planning our HOME MEET, so please let me know what you would be willing to help with on meet day (May 6th). I have already heard from: Mrs. Ukrainetz, Beuters, Mrs. Horvath, Mrs. Huff, Mrs. Meyer, Lupenskis, Ms. Muchado, and Yerkes about their plans. We will NEED LOTS of hands!! We cannot pull this off without a significant commitment from parents—I will wait to open the slots up for the general school population to fill their service hour needs until next week, so that gives the rest of you one week to let me know what you would like to do to help before you may lose your preference!! Following are places we need help:
*TIMERS—We will need 7 more people who will push a button when their lane crosses the finish line (truly that easy!), you will be on the infield for a good portion of the meet, but this job is super fun to do with friends and our head timer is a hoot!
*Concessions helpers—work in our concession stand for 1-2 hours of the meet, we can work it around your athlete’s events for the most part so that you don’t miss their action!!
*Set up before the meet—You would need to arrive at the meet approximately one hour before “on the infield” time, to help set up concessions, field events, tents, etc.
*Clean up after meet—Usually takes us about 45 minutes to clean up all the tents, items after the meet is over.
*Gate control—we need a total of 4 people, 2 at a time to help control the crossing of the track during the meet—about 2-2 ½ hour shifts, you get a nifty orange vest and the power to tell people what they can and cannot do!;)
*Starter—Anyone love to fire a pistol? (OK, they’re blanks, but have super cool smoke and sound!) Training, food and water provided. Prefer someone with steady arms and ability to work with the head timer closely.
*Relay judges—3 spots open, you get to hold a really cool two ended flag and just watch to make sure all the relay handoffs go off without a hitch… This is one of the *easiest* jobs as there are only a handful of times you would be called on to help (4 relays throughout the meet, you would get to sit in between!)
I would really appreciate if one adult from each family could volunteer for a position somewhere to help out, you will be amazed at how many people it takes to run this event—awesome, but need lots of help!! J
Please let me know if you have questions or just want to talk through what would work for you! Thank you in advance, it really helps our meet go smoothly…
I will be working on practices during Spring Break this week, so if you are planning to be out of town or athlete not available, could you please let me know? I will not rent facilities if we are down to just a handful of athletes…
Mark your calendars—Thursday April 20th will be our pre-meet meeting at the end of practice, so parents please plan to arrive by 5:40PM that day for our meeting!! Thank you!
As always, please let me know if you have questions or concerns or need to communicate anything with me about your athlete… I am happy to be a resource!
